WHAT WE DO
The Manhattan of Haarlem: ‘Woodscraper’
Haarlem is increasingly developing as an attractive residential city. The concept of the compact city is a key strategy to obtain a sustainable and high-quality urban development. Commissioned by Cobraspen, a proposal has been developed for the transformation and expansion of the existing office building Fonteinlaan 5 into a unique residential building. This nineteen storey residential building can serve as a new landmark and is designed with respect for existing urban values, so that it can contribute to the city’s contemporary character. The office building at the Haarlemmerhout will partly be redesigned and partially demolished, to be transformed into ‘Woodscraper’. The plan is inspired by the classic skyscrapers around Central Park, such as the Woolworth building and The Sherry Netherland Hotel. The rich ornamentation and the stepped contour creates an exciting silhouette. At the same time, the building refers to the characteristic masonry Dutch houses. Its design is multifunctional, sustainable and iconic.
